JMP Group Hires Ferra

JMP Group has hired Joseph J. Ferra, Jr. as a managing director in its investment banking division in the firm’s New York office. Ferra will focus on the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and specialty pharmaceutical industries. Prior to joining JMP Securities, Ferra was a senior investment banker at UBS Investment Bank, where he was one of three calling officers leading the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and specialty pharmaceutical investment banking coverage effort in the Americas. Ferra previously worked in healthcare investment banking at Leerink Swann and J.P. Morgan. Earlier, he held sales and engineering roles at Shimadzu Scientific Instruments and Thermo Electron Corporation, providing life science tools and diagnostic instruments to pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients.

Guggenheim Securities Hires Griffiths

Guggenheim Securities has hired Brian Griffiths as a senior managing director. Griffiths will focus on advising companies across the technology industry and will commence work at Guggenheim in June. The addition of Griffiths broadens the reach of Guggenheim Securities’ investment banking capabilities dedicated to the dynamic and fast-growing technology sector. Griffiths is currently a managing director in the Technology, Media and Telecom Group at Credit Suisse in New York and previously was the co-head of European TMT and Head of European Technology at Credit Suisse in London.

Stifel Hires Devitt and McCarthy to Research Unit

Stifel Financial Corp. appointed Scott Devitt as a managing director, with a focus on the Internet sector. The addition of Devitt further solidifies Stifel’s position as the leading provider of Information Technology research, as measured by StarMine. Devitt will bring more than 15 years of covering the Internet sector, including the last five years as managing director at Morgan Stanley. Prior to Morgan Stanley, Devitt was a managing director at Legg Mason and then Stifel.
